"It is a joy to be hidden, and a disaster not to be found"
Welcome. If you’re visiting this site I imagine you’ve been struggling. Just reaching out for help is a big step and can be the first of many in a life changing journey. It can be very daunting to acknowledge that you are suffering enough that you feel you need to ask for help. You may be battling the shame of believing you should be able to handle things all on your own, or perhaps you come from a family or a culture where revealing struggle is the same as admitting weakness.

A Safe Space for Healing and Self-Discovery
The stigma around mental health can be paralysing and can result in many people, such as yourself, suffering in silence for far too long. I sincerely hope I get the privilege helping you overcome this shame and start a new chapter of healing. What I offer is a non-judgmental space where you can begin to get to know yourself in an entirely new way. I do not provide advice or platitudes; rather, I assist you in understanding the reasons behind your reliance on certain ineffective coping mechanisms and how these have contributed to your current circumstances.

Through this understanding, my aim is to offer you greater flexibility to make different choices for yourself or to gain a new perspective on various aspects of your life. Part of how I work does involve looking at the past to understand your present, as well as deepening your awareness of your emotions and what they might be trying to tell you. I also delve not only into a supportive process but also into a fuller, more accepting understanding of yourself as a whole human being – perfectly imperfect like the rest of us. Learning about these parts of yourself in a truly safe environment can be a transformative experience. For this to succeed, confidentiality is key and everything we speak about will be held between us unless safety becomes a serious concern. With that said, I do help people who are experiencing suicidal ideation, self-harm, depression, anxiety, Bipolar Mood Disorder, OCD, PTSD, bereavement and personality disorders, amongst other ailments.
While this gives you a clear idea of the areas in which I might be able to help you, I am also very reluctant to reduce people down to a label. In reality what I work with is the alleviation of suffering. Whether that be from feelings that make it too hard to get out of bed, a total absence of joy and pleasure, loneliness and longing, repeated broken relationships or broken homes, emotions that roll around a rollercoaster too intense to endure anymore, or just the need to feel seen and heard by someone. Whatever it is, I am here, ready to meet you where you are and begin our journey together.
About Me
Eve Sigalas
Hi, I’m Eve. I am a clinical psychologist and psychoanalytic psychotherapist. I initially did my training through the WITS circuit and have experience in both private a public healthcare. I have further honed my skills through my membership and participation in the South African Psychoanalytic Initiative and the Institute of Psychoanalytic Child Psychotherapy. Practicing psychoanalytically essentially means that I believe in the concept on the unconscious and aim to make the unknown self, known.

What to expect
The first session
Coming to your first therapy session might feel a lot scarier than you expected and knowing what to expect can really help. To begin with we will take some time to get to know each other a little better and see if we will be able to work well together. This will involve coming to my rooms for three initial consultations in which I will ask some questions and get a better idea of what has brought you to see me. This will also be a great time to ask me any questions you might have about the process and the road ahead. At the end of these three sessions we will agree on what kind of intervention would be most useful to you and how often we will meet, as well as provide important parameters such as confidentiality, fee structure, 24-hour cancellation policy, and informed consent to therapy. After that I will ask a lot less questions and together we will explore whatever content you decide to bring. As I mentioned on my Home page, therapy with me is not about providing advice, solutions, or opinions. It is about thinking about the meaning of what is happening in your life and guiding you to a better understanding of yourself and the world you inhabit.
